Day 3 - Valentine's Day
We started with a walk along the beach. We did that every day and it was always great. There weren't many people out, it wasn't too hot, and the beach
was long enough that it was a lengthy hike. And the beach was beautiful and the water warm so it was fun to wade at the edge of the water. Afterwards
we found a restaurant in town for breakfast.
Today we tried going down to the beach but we found out that it crowded up quickly, especially right across from the hotel. No problem - we headed to the
hotel pool. Sandy needed to catch up on email so she worked on her stuff by the pool. I decided to check out Patong Beach to the north. I got my first
ride in a tuk tuk. I also found out why Karon Beach was described as "quiet". Patong Beach was a zoo! But I did find some cheap t-shirts, ate at
McDonald's, and found some really cheap (probably knock off) DVD's.
We had an awesome Valentine's Day dinner outside at a restaurant by the ocean with a great view of the sunset.
There were lots of good, inexpensive restaurants. It was very
pleasant to eat out on a patio overlooking the ocean.
Sandy finally gets a ride in tuk tuk.
The marker at the main traffic circle in Karon Beach. It marks
the high water point of the December 2004 tsunami. Only two
years ago and there is no trace of the damage
Sandy enjoys our private plunge pool on the patio of our villa.
We took a long walk on the beach every morning.
Quite a bit of difference. There were very few people out on
the beach in the morning. There is a lot of night life
on Phuket, so people rarely started to show up until after ten in
the morning.
At each end the beach ended in a rocky headland.
One day I hiked over the ridge and came down to the water near the
point. Only a mile away, but there was no one there.
View back to the hordes on the main beach.
Valentine's Day - we have breakfast after our morning beach walk.

Dinner on Valentine's Day. We found an outstanding Italian
restaurant.
